Gate to the Sanctuary - Jonathon Young
(this is pretty much Jonathon Young only - even though Ben Browder was there)

*** all photos will go up tomorrow. I can't find my camera cord.

Okay so it begins on Sunday morning with our photo ops first - so glad about this as we were all preening all morning :)  Have to say, the man is drop dead gorgeous in person - and unfairly tall. Seriously, I'm in 3 1/2 inch heels and I'm still a decent foot shorter than him. He's got his hair dyed again (gorgeous) and has bulked up a bit of muscle (mmm). I told him that he was the reason I am currently broke and therefore required a hug. He obliged. Perfect human being.

Jonathon's presentation was hilarious. The man reminds me of a 3 year old bouncing about, trashing the stage and climbing on the furniture. Seriously, they must have to tie him up on set purely so that continuity doesn't have to follow him around fixing things.

Case and point, about halfway through he spied an innocent looking Christmas tree with presents - part of the hotel's decorations which normal people leave alone. Not a theatre actor. During his Q & A, Jon wanders over to the tree, picks up a hefty wrapped gift and brings it back to the podium. Not missing a beat, he continues to answer questions at the same time as delicately undoing some of the sticky tape to see if he can get into the present. Following his long running gag about being the Mayor of Vienna, he thought the parcel was addressed to him and immediately ripped into it leaving a trail of boxes and wrapping paper in his wake.

At one point he ventured into the crowd to answer a question - causing the poor girl who was asking it to entirely falter the closer he got to her. By the end she was just making noises at the mike which were probably gasps of adoration as he climbed onto a chair beside her. Nobody can remember what the question was as we were too busy photographing him standing on a chair. LOLFANGIRLS.

The entire time, the performance was more of an impromptu duo between Jon and the audio visual guy, who kept posting comments on the giant screen behind Jon - causing us to break into laughter at inappropriate moments. So yes, Tesla was PAID OUT by TECHNOLOGY live on stage. Epic. Beyond. Epic. There will be a few photos of it in the next post but mainly I was so busy laughing I forgot to take photos.

During (and inevitably) the Q & A he as asked about Magnus and Tesla. All of the shippers went into glee mode as he explained that he and Helen would have been Mayor (later changed to KING and QUEEN with the addition of 'EVIL') of Vienna. Why he picked Vienna? Well, obviously because something rather interesting went on between them in Vienna. He explained that in the original take, he was draped over the fireplace giving Helen a rather questionable/dirty/inappropriate look as he uttered that infamous line, "remember...?" but it didn't make the final cut. (WHY EDITORS WHY)

In short, his answer was that Nikola needs to be evil to be interesting, so Magnus becomes evil - they marry and rule over Vienna. Because they can. And that's how Sanctuary really ends. I would have watched that.

He also told some hilarious stories about trying to fight dolled up as a vampire. His contact lenses reduce his vision to NOTHING, he has awkward claws which he can hardly move in and prothetic teeth that mean he can't speak properly making him the most awkward, unscary thing ever. Oh well - he pulled it off on film!

As of now, The Electric Company Theatre doesn't have any plans to film their performances for sharing with us :( but only because they fear that filming plays doesn't look good. He was, however, stoked that so many of us travel from all over the world to see their productions. For anyone that is interested, there are many more plays in the works for next year which I will post to lair_or_lab as soon as I can find links to the information.

It's poor form to share anything about the cocktail party afterwards so all I'll say is that he sat next to me for a very long time and we all chatted. He's an awesome, down to earth guy and we're so lucky he made it to our (rather large) corner of the world. We wished him all the best and hope he enjoys his time here.

Awesome person was awesome. Don't get eaten by anything up North. Please be on TV soon. Love from Australia.

I really wish I could've been there. I've seen a couple other photos and he looks so happy and healthy! I'm so glad you got to meet him and have fun while there. :)

Thanks so much for sharing your fabulous experience!!!

Is he still in Vancouver (recall something he moved to Toronto)? If so, he's more likely to get hit by a car than eaten by anything.
