New Shows!
Okay so in the absence of anything decent to watch I decided to dabble in a few new ones with mixed results...

ATLANTIS (2013)

Apparently this is made by the same people who attempted Merlin. Now, as PG and (frequently pathetic) as Merlin was attempting to be a serious show with actual plot. I approached Atlantis with a similar expectation. Don't do that. Once you get over the initial shock, you realise Atlantis might just float into that rare atmosphere of hillarious parody.

To summarise:

The worst marine archeologist the earth has ever known (Jason - as in 'Jason and the Argonauts') spends two seconds staring at something before his underwater pod implodes - wakes up NAKED on the beach of an island where some random Greek peasant has left him clothes. Turns out this is ATLANTIS and, not the least bit phased his proceeds to run into a drunk, overweight Hercules (sure I'll pay that), who's co-habiting with Pythagoras (wtf he's not a mythological character, nor was he ever associated with Atlantis and if he was, totally the wrong time period but okay) and they are off to collectively fight the Minotaur (which is meant to be in Troy, not Atlantis) (and who was killed by Theseus - not Jason). PS his mother has a serious drug problem inhaling smoke from something which gives her visions of the future (which, forgive me but having been a study of Greek Mythology shouldn't Jason have some idea what he's in for?) and his father is possibly Poseidon.

Watch with tea and/or alcohol. Enjoy in large groups. Do not attempt to understand anything about it.

On a side note it taught me something important. That a CLUE is derived from the clue that Pasiphae gave Theseus to help him find his way back through the labyrinth. They may have got the mythology totally wrong but in trying to understand it I learned something.

THE WHITE QUEEN

Where has King Richard being hiding??? (Aneurin Barnard HOLY FRAKKING HELL).

Yes, this is an excellent (if not somewhat inaccurate and romantic) version of three brothers who would be king of England and the commoner who became queen. It's fast paced, gorgeous to look at and littered with a likeable who's who of English actors which frankly, I want to spend the next few months making gifs of because damn.

Watch it - if possible marathon it because it's really just one long story which is surprisingly about one of the forgotten kings of history.

Much love to the whole cast.

VIKINGS

Ahahahaha I loved this. It's not excellent, hell it's not even great but it has a really good theme song, an unforgiving commitment by the cast and Gabriel Byrne (which should be enough for everyone).

Speaking of, it's one of those shows that gets better the longer you watch it and by the last ep you are really rooting for a new series. No one is safe and it's fun to finally watch something viewed solely from the perspective of the Vikings instead of the English.

Have fun with it - don't try and use it as research for your paper on the history of Vikings. You'll fail.

CROSSING LINES

Watch it. This is a fun crime show set in Europe with plenty of pretty people who can actually act and a cast that is not safe. Complete with an overarching plot plus plenty of weekly 'whodoneit's. Notable appearances by Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones oh yeah), Donald Sutherland and William Fichtner. This was the biggest surprise of the random shows I picked to watch. Indeed, I lost a couple of day's sleep over this so I suggest you start on a weekend. Bring on season two. It's been greenlighted, now all we have to do is wait - and re-watch - and re-watch...

My friend tonight just wrote a review about Atlantis, and no, she doesn't get it either. LOL

Any chance you would watch Once Upon a Time?! XD
