of course, i actually had to go on the nets to see what a sawfly was and upon learning they are wasp-like it's an even more ewww post.

when i first saw that - um, conglomeration? i thought OMFGHUGEASSSPIDERTHING!!!! which i then revised to wtf... and finally, 'um... at least my first thought was wrong...'

lol

sawfly - they're like the ancestors of wasps, bees and ants... thankfully they're not as sinister as their modern counterparts.

lol totally - and the beauty of living here is that you kind of get used to the 'shock' factor or the random wildlife. i've had micro-chocolate-wattle-bats buzz over my head when i'm on the computer - red belly black snakes - parasitic wasps - monitor lizards LOL it just becomes a blur of OOOOH WHAT IS THAT? :D

These things are hideous enough in their small version. Honestly, it looks like something I'd clean a drain with! *shudders*
Um, but thanks for the photo...I wouldn't have believed it if you'd described it ROFL ;)

That looks a little unusual, but interesting.
Did you touch it? I'm curious what it feels like. (That is if its not poisonous!)

sawflies!
Hi Elly,
I was searching for sawfly pictures online and I stumbled across the two pictures you posted on your journal. I would love to know where you found them. I'm currently studying Australian sawflies at University in Melbourne but I've never seen such a red and yellow species. Are they common where you are?
Please send me an email on wingedocelot@hotmail.com
Thanks so much!!
Lisa
